Redesign of internal media archive system at VG - Norway’s most read newspaper

Media Asset Management (MAM) system is an essential internal tool for TV stations, production companies, digital agencies. It organizes and stores media assets such as images, videos, audios and extra materials in order to productively discover, collaborate, publish and securely store them on the common storage, whether in the cloud or in-house.

First, I conducted in-depth interviews with primary end users of the product. Here are some highlights of the requests they have and what they look forward to the most in the next version of the software:

VG delivers news, TV shows and other reportages around the clock. Being the most read newspaper in Norway that reaches around 2.2 million readers daily, it is crucial to support the in house production in the most efficient way. Usability and simplicity of use for internal production is therefore crucial for our video journalists. This system aims to provide the smoothest upload workflow in order to log our files, create a solid archive that holds both “dirty” and “clean“ versions of clips.

Thanks to clear loudness control (measured in Loudness Unit Full Scale - LUFS), the user immediately understands which video outside of the target range and needs to be replaced.
